| Resumo | In this paper we review the climatologies of cloudiness and precipitation for the Amazon, explaining the physical causes of some of the observed features and pointing out those which are not well know. The atmospheric circulation over the Amazon is discussed within the framework of the large-scale tropical circulations (Hadley-Walker circulations)forced by deep diabatic heating sources. The question of weather deforestation leads to a reduction in evapotranspiration into the atmosphere, also a reduction in precipitation and its implications for the global climate is discussed. There are some indications that for large-scale clearing of tropical rainforests there would indeed be a reduction in rainfall and that would have global effects in terms of climate and weather both in the tropical and extratropical regions. |
